Covered is run by one person, a principal. Here is exactly what it collects and what happens to it.

Teachers

When you buy a day, Stripe collects your payment and your email address. I never see your card number. I keep your email, your name, and the answers you type into the intake form (school, course, grade, bell schedule, where your class is, your norms for the sub). I use them for one thing: to write and deliver your day and send you the results. I do not sell them, share them, or put them on a marketing list.

Students

Students are asked for a class code, first name, and last initial. Nothing else. No accounts, no email addresses, no logins, no district systems. Their written answers and exit-ticket scores are stored so you can read them, and are deleted automatically 30 days after your sub date. You can also ask me to delete them sooner.

The student page does not use tracking cookies or analytics. It stores a draft of a student's typed answers in their own browser tab so a refresh does not wipe their work; that draft never leaves their device.

Substitutes

The sub script page has an optional "note to the teacher" box. Whatever the sub types is sent to the teacher in the 3:15 p.m. email and deleted with the rest of the class data after 30 days.

Where things live

Everything is stored on a single server I rent, in one database file, with automatic HTTPS. Generated lesson content is created with the help of a language model provider; the intake you write is sent to that provider to write the day. Student names and answers are never sent to it.
